The Style Council were in a strange position by 1988. They had achieved great singles and album success and although the divide between the hardcore Weller fans of the Jam days and through to those who were into the left political message that he lamented about during the Favourite Shop period were by now becoming slightly lost with his message, even if there was one at all anymore to actually deliver. 

This track was produced for the Confessions of a pop group album in 1988,  just before the band picked up the Acid House vibe for their final album the following year. This song has been chosen because of its serious and sad message of the one night stand that so many people endure in their lives. There is no love here, there is no affection, just pure drunken lust and sex for the sake of it. 


These lyrics are a brilliant tale of two people who meet on a night out, go back together, sleep with one another and the next day they both go there separate ways, whilst the woman in the tale has to experience the release of the mans sperm that runs down her leg and onto her shoe, down to the drain and gone forever. 

A very unusual song title but a very common message, and one that is very well written and a world away from the bands final assault on the emerging UK Rave scene. Listen to the song in full and you can appreciate its quality.

The Best Prefab Sprout B-Sides

PREFAB SPROUT B-SIDES Paddy Mcaloon and his band Prefab Sprout are one of the finest Rock/Pop/Indie crossover bands of the 80's & 90's and beyond With varying degrees of commercial success over the years, they have certainly earned their place in music history. But there is another story to hot dogs and jumping frogs. There is a side to the groups legacy that generally only the die hard fans and collectors usually know. A world where Mcaloon wrote and recorded some of his finest lyrics, that were crafted into beautifully structured compositions.
