Weller Two
PAUL WELLER
ABOVE THE CLOUDS
As the early 90's dawned, Paul Weller found himself in a bit of a rut. The Style Councils Acid house experiment hadn't worked out as good as it could have, and their days of anti Thatcher songs were a distant memory to the next generation of kids who had recently been in favour of bands like the Stone Roses and the Happy Mondays.
Although his rendition of Joe Smooths The Promised Land was a good track, it really was a world away from where he had begun with the Jam a decade or so earlier. It was time for him to re position himself as a voice in music and to find his strength again. So in 1992 his first solo album was released and to great critical acclaim. The single Above The Clouds is a superb Jazz Funk vibe which has a very melancholic but hopeful set of lyrics to accompany the music. Weller at this point was finally back from his night club excursion and back into the Rock vibe.
